About Me

My name is Josephine (Hodak) Wilkes, or Jojo for short. I grew up in Arizona, Michigan, and Minnesota, being the middle of five sisters. I accepted Christ as my personal Savior at the age of five and have been on my spiritual journey ever since. I had the privilege of attending Christian schools growing up and being raised in a Christian home by amazing parents. I graduated high school from Fourth Baptist in May 2012.

My road to becoming a teacher was not cut and dry. I changed my major several times before settling on a career in teaching. I had and still have a love for English, specifically literature, and a love for volleyball. A career in education seemed like a logical step for me, since I come from a family of educators. I completed my student teaching (internship) at Grand View Christian School and Des Moines Christian School. I was hired by Grand View in April 2016 after my student teaching experience, and I graduated from Faith Baptist Bible College (Ankeny, Iowa) in May 2016 with a Bachelor of Science in Secondary English Education and Bible.

I got married in August 2016 and moved with my husband Marcus to Iowa. I obtained my state teaching and coaching licensure through the state of Iowa and taught at Grand View Christian School in Des Moines for two years before moving to Minnesota and accepting the teaching position at Fourth in August 2018. In Iowa, I taught 9-10th grade English and was the yearbook adviser. I also was the head coach of the junior high volleyball coach at Grand View.

My current roles at Fourth are teaching 9-12th grade English and helping in the athletic department.
